Lewistown Man Seriously Injured in Collision

PHILIPSBURG – A 42-year-old Lewistown man sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Altoona Hospital by Medic 1 following a tractor-trailer collision at 10:53 a.m. Friday in Philipsburg Borough, Centre County.

The Philipsburg-based state police identified the man as John F. Hockenburry, 42, of Lewistown. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. Tractor-trailer operator James R. Jones, 58, of DuBois was not injured.

According to the report, the Jones tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound along U.S. Route 322 when the Hockenburry vehicle entered the intersection from Pine Street, traveling into the path of the Jones tractor-trailer.

The Jones tractor-trailer struck the right, middle side of the Hockenburry vehicle with its left, front end before impacting a utility pole with its middle, front end. After impact, the Hockenburry vehicle traveled over a curb and came to a rest partially blocking the eastbound lane, while the Jones tractor-trailer came to a rest within the intersection.

Police were assisted at the scene by Centre County Emergency Management Agency, PennDOT, the Reliance and Hope Volunteer Fire Companies, Mountain Top Emergency Medical Services and Eagle Tire and Towing.
