PENFIELD – The Past Exalted Rulers Association of the Clearfield Elks Lodge Number 540 is gearing up for the 23rd Annual High Country Arts & Crafts Fair. This year’s event is scheduled for July 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at S.B. Elliott State Park located off of state Route 153 North between Clearfield and Penfield.
The Past Exalted Ruler’s will be preparing over 1000 BBQ chicken dinners, as well as Meatball and Hot Sausage Sandwiches, Hot Dogs & Pierogies, cold drinks and homemade desserts. Proceeds from the food sales benefit local and Elk’s charities. Chicken Dinner tickets can be purchased in advance at the Elks Lodge located at 301 North Second Street or from any Past Exalted Ruler. Tickets will also be available for sale at the Park on the front porch of the PA Center on the day of the event.
The fine arts and crafts will fill 160 spaces. This event is open only to Pennsylvania vendors and commercially and/or mass produced items are prohibited. The products available for sale range from the ordinary to the extraordinary. There is something for everyone: jewelry; woodcrafts; furniture; floral arrangements; plants & herbs; crochet, knitted & fabric crafts; seasonal, outdoor and indoor décor; tole painting; candles; bath & body products; smoked cheeses; hand mixed seasonings & spice blends; homemade jams & jellies; pottery and much, much more.
Bonnie Whaling and her group of spinners will be demonstrating how to spin wool and chain saw carving will be done be T & D Carvings of Brockport.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day. Dennie Huber, balloon artist and magician from Altoona will be on stage from 11 to 1. The popular group The Primer Greys will be performing from 1:30 to 3:30 and the very talented organist Robert Guarino will be playing popular tunes on the front porch of the PA Center.
Free shuttle service is provided from the parking area to the event and back.
The continued success of this craft show is due in no small part to the hard work of 90 plus volunteers; the cooperation of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Park Managers, both current and previous, of Parker Dam and S.B. Elliott State Parks.

Over the years, as a result of this event, the P.E.R. Association has donated thousands of dollars to many local charities such as the Scouting programs; Clearfield High School Field House; Music Boosters; sports programs; Marian House women’s shelter; Clearfield Emergency Medical Services; Clearfield Ministerium Food Bank; Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging; Salvation Army; Clearfield-Lawrence Airport; Clearfield-Jefferson Red Cross; Elks’ Charities & Scholarships; and many others too numerous to mention.
