Clearfield Hosts Potter Baseball Tour

CLEARFIELD — An all-star team made up of players from the Clearfield Babe Ruth League hosted the Potter Baseball Tour on Tuesday evening at the Lawrence Township Recreational Park.

The Potter team, on a month-long barnstormimg journey, bested the Babe Ruth squad 9-3 in the scheduled 9-inning, wooden bat affair.

Tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Potter pushed across a single run then added two more in the sixth and blew the game open with a 4-run salvo in the seventh. Potter was the home team by virtue of winning the pre-game bat-flip.

Two Clearfield players strongly contributed to the Potter victory. Picking up the victory was Wyatt Westen who pitched six and a third innings, picking up nine strikeouts and allowing only two earned runs.

Leading the offense for Potter was Seth Ford. Ford went three for three at the plate with a double and a base on balls. Ford also pitched the last two and two thirds innings and did not allow a run.

Picking up two hits for the Clearfield squad was Kyle Kushner. C.J. Gathagan, the first of four Clearfield hurlers, was saddled with the loss after making it through four plus innings.

Notes: The Potter team and Clearfield Area Youth Baseball hosted a clinic for area players during the day at the Lawrence Township Rec Park Field. A Homerun Derby was held at the conclusion of the clinic. Winners were Ty Bender in the 9-10 age group, Brandon Orsich in the 11-12s, and Alante Rhodes in the 13-15 age group.
