Obituary Notice: John E. Straw

John E. ‘Jack’ Straw,   78, of Chestnut Grove, died on, June 25, 2011 at his residence. 

He was born on July 20, 1932 in Olanta, a son of the late James W. and Cora G. (Cathcart) Straw.

Mr. Straw was employed as a truck driver for various companies in the area.  He was protestant by faith.  Mr. Straw was a member of the Sandy Fireman’s Club and the Polish Citizens Club, DuBois.  He was also a member of the Sykesville Fraternal Order of Eagles and served with the U.S. Navy.  Mr. Straw enjoyed watching NASCAR races, fishing, and spending time at camp in Medix Run.  He will be remembered for the love he had for his family.  

He is survived by his wife, Anna M. (Morgan) Straw, whom he wed Nov. 26, 1960 at Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church,

And several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister Dean Cathcart, James Straw and Betty Povlich.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Emmett Anderson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Grampian.

Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts’ Honor Guard. 

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10-11:00 a.m.
