CLEARFIELD – With the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library summer reading program officially started, youth of all ages will have the opportunity to participate in many exciting activities each week. The first week of the summer reading program, The Stories We Tell, features great storytelling and related activities.
An event for children enrolled in the Read-to-Me program will be held on June 21 at 10:30 a.m. “Rhyme Time” will help preschool aged children discover the fun behind nursery rhymes from different parts of the world using stories, games, and crafts.
On June 22 at 10:30 a.m., participants in the Read-to-Me, School Age A, and School Age B programs are encouraged to attend “Stories Around the World.” This program for youth of all ages features special guest storytellers from the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. Members of PASR will share stories, crafts, and activities from around the world.
The first week of programming concludes with an event for youth of all ages featuring a popular entertainer. Gene Allen will return to Shaw Public Library for another performance. His engaging show last year had families laughing and singing together, and this year’s Stories and Songs from Around the World show promises a lot of the same. The performance on June 23 at 10:30 a.m. will include music, storytelling, comedy, and puppets. Gene Allen is known for audience participation, and his show is family-friendly.
Registration for the One World, Many Stories summer reading program continues throughout the summer. All participants are asked to pick up their registration packets at the front desk of the library. Children ages birth through the completion of kindergarten should enroll in the Read-to-Me program. Youth who have recently completed grades 1 through 3 are encouraged to participate in the School Age A program and those who have recently completed grades 4 through 6 will enroll in the School Age B program. Those students who have recently completed grades 7 through 11 are invited to join the young adult reading program, and adults, including recent high school graduates, should register for the adult reading program. All registrations are completed online at the Shaw Public Library’s Web site.
