Sara B. (Hurd) Scrano, 90, of Madera passed away at 11:35 p.m., June 13, 2011 at the DuBois Nursing Home, DuBois, PA.
Sara was born on May 20, 1921 in LaJose, a daughter of the late Herbert and Dove L. (Barrett) Hurd.
She was a 1939 graduate of the Mahaffey High School.
On Sept. 11, 1939 in Winchester, VA she married Salvador James Scrano who preceded her in death on July 15, 1996.
Sara was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and past member of the church Rosary Altar Society. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing.
Sara is survived by three daughters, and a son; Phyllis Scrano of Philipsburg; Salvador F. “Sal” Scrano and his wife Ruth of Cazenovia, NY; Flora Ann Stewart of Madera; and Sara “Sally” Sidorick and her husband Michael Sidorick of Clearfield.
She is survived by eight grandchildren; Mark Scrano and his wife Sheree; David Scrano, Salvador A. Scrano and his wife Kimberly, Ruth Hollo and her husband Steven, Amy Hardesty and her husband Philip, Kristin Caldwell and her husband William, Nicholas Sidorick and Michael Sidorick. Eleven great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren also survive.
Sara is survived by three brothers, Walter Hurd of Sykesville; Hugh Hurd of Altoona; and Glenn Hurd and his wife Jeanette of Milesburg. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Caroline Hurd of LaJose, three brother-in-laws, Frank Scrano of Clearfield; Anthony “Foster” Scrano and his wife Jean of Clearfield and Robert Radomsky of Curwensville. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Along with her parents and husband, Sara was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Stewart; two brothers, Herbert Barrett Hurd and Robert “Rob” Hurd and two sisters, Eleanor Norris and Joann Radomsky.
Friends will be received on June 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on June 20 from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc. Madera.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on June 20 at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Madera, with Rev. Fr. Joseph P. Staszewski as celebrant. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Madera. Condolences may be sent to: condolences@kruisefuneralhome.com
