CLEARFIELD — The Clearfield Chiefs fell one run short of a big comeback victory in Jefferson County American Legion baseball action at the Bison Sports Complex on Tuesday night.
Down 7-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Chiefs plated three runs and had two runners on base when the game ended 7-6.
Leadoff batter Cole Kephart reached on an error and was doubled home by Derek Danver. Two outs and one run later the Chiefs rattled off three hits in a row to make it interesting. The final hit was a run scoring single by Kyler Kephart that plated Shane Harper. Relief pitcher Georgino gave up the final hit, but then induced a fly out to right field to end the game.
The Chiefs were led offensively by Andrew Redden who had a triple, a single and two RBIs. The other Chief with two hits, both singles, was Kyler Kephart.
Wes McGarry was saddled with the loss after giving up five runs, four of which were earned, in the first three innings.
The Chiefs (3-5 overall, 3-2 in the league) will return to action on Wednesday night when they host BWP in non-league action.
