PITTSBURGH – On June 6, Students First held the first in what will be a series of “Put Students first Tele-Town Hall Meetings” on school choice and Senate Bill 1.
Over 4,000 Pennsylvanians tuned in to learn more on how the passage of Senate Bill 1 will change the lives of students across Pennsylvania.
For an hour, participants were able to hear stories of other students in need, hear specific information on the bill and ask direct questions. In addition, callers were able to partake in a survey regarding their opinions on school choice.
Ninety-seven percent felt parents should be able to decide which school is best for their child, while 81 percent felt that parents should be able to use vouchers.
The second “Put Students first Tele-Town Hall Meeting” will take place on Monday, June 13 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Dawn Chavous, Students First’s executive director, said, “We look forward to engaging in further dialogue with the parents of the thousands of kids currently trapped in violent, failing schools.
“We will continue our fight to help them get the safe, quality education they need to have real opportunities in adulthood.”
