Obituary Notice: Clara S. Davies

Clara S. Davies, age 86, formerly of East Scribner Avenue in DuBois, PA died June 10, 2011 at West Penn Forbes Hospice Unit in Pittsburgh, PA.

She was born on June 17, 1924 in DuBois, PA.  She was the daughter of the late John A. & Effie J. (Bailey) Shannon.

She was a 1942 graduate of DuBois High School.

She was married to Richard A. Davies.  He survives. 

She worked at the A&P Supermarket for 25 years and was the Registrar for the State of Pennsylvania for 30 years.

She attended the Christian Missionary & Alliance Church in Falls Creek.  She was a former member of Community Bible Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She also served as church secretary and was the Ladies Fellowship Leader.  She was the chairwoman of the Democratic Committee in DuBois and the chairwoman and a member of the Election Board at the 2nd Ward Precinct.  She served as President for the DuBois Alumni Association’s 100th Anniversary.  She served on the DuBois City Council and was a member of the DuBois Regional Medical Center Hospice Advisory Board.  She was a volunteer at the Red Cross Bloodmobile.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, spending time with her granddaughter, reading the Bible and listening to Gospel music. 

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen J. Hendricks and her husband, Michael of Pittsburgh, PA and her 2 sons (Frank R. Davies and his wife Cris of Cocoa Beach, FL and Jeffrey R. Davies and his wife Pamela of Albion, NY, one sister, Leah Ott of DuBois, PA, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, John G. Shannon, Bruce F. Shannon and Willis C. Shannon and four sisters, Twila Umbaugh, Flossie Lane, Jayne Shannon, and Hazel Guiher.

Visitation will be held on June 14, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Goble Baronick Funeral Home in DuBois.

A funeral service will be held on June 15 at 10 a.m. from the Goble Baronick Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Bundy and Pastor Sherman Bailey co-officiating.

Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery.
