HORTON TOWNSHIP – A 57-year-old Brockport man was killed after a single-vehicle accident at 10:15 p.m. Saturday night along U.S. Route 219 in Horton Township, Elk County.

The Ridgway-based state police identified the accident victim as Clarence L. Russell, 57, of Brockport. He was transported to the Elk Regional Heath Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m.

According to the report, Russell’s 2001 Ford Ranger was traveling south at a high rate of speed when it left the southbound lane and traveled onto the western berm. His pick-up truck then impacted the guiderail and continued in a southern direction along the same.

When it returned to the roadway, the pick-up truck crossed the southbound lane and both northbound lanes. It then left the roadway and struck the guiderail along the eastern berm where it overturned one time and returned to its wheels. The pick-up truck came to a rest against the eastern guiderail, facing the southeastern direction.

The Horton Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene. Russell’s pick-up truck sustained severe damage. He wasn’t wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
