Obituary Notice: Jon W. Halford

Jon W. Halford, born January 25, 1938 in Clearfield, PA, died June 6, 2011 at the age of 73 in his home surrounded by his loving family.  

He was the son of the late F. Kenneth and Sarah (Brodbeck) Halford. 

The tenth born of 12 children, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean (Harmic/Gross) and Sally (Ferguson), six brothers, David Lawrence, Louis Roland, F. Kenneth Jr. (Bud), Donald, Robert and Gary. He is survived by three brothers, Jim of Littleton, Colorado, Tom of Naperville, Illinois, and Rod of Youngstown, NY.

He was a loving husband and father and is survived by his wife, Nancy Jean (Sneddon) whom he married on February 14, 1954 in Clearfield and by six children—Rick of Clearfield, PA, Chris (Crafton) and husband Tom of Smyrna, Tennessee, Trish of Kissimmee, Florida, Pam (Clyde) and husband Ted of Curry Run, PA, Ken and Candace of New Stanton, PA, Jeff and wife Holly of Nesbit, Mississippi.  Jon also has 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Jon joined the United States Navy in 1954 and served for 6 years on the U.S.S. Valley Forge. 

He began working at Tafco, Hyde in 1961 and was employed there for 32 years. 

He enjoyed boating at Curwensville Dam and spent his retirement mastering the fine art of wood working.  He made many beautiful pieces that he shared with his family and friends.  He also spent much time visiting with his children and their families as well as with his good buddy Jim (Buggy) Young. 

He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penn State football as well as high school and college wrestling.

He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who loved him.

A memorial service will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth J. Leonard officiating.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 – 11:00 a.m.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 S. Second Street, Clearfield or to the charity of one’s choice.
