DUBOIS – On May 23, Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., presented a video and spoke to students at the DuBois Middle School.
Shaw presented a video called “2 Smart 4 TRBL” on behalf of the Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Association, which stressed the importance of students making good decisions. The video depicted real life situations that students could encounter while at school and also showed the consequences of particular decisions. Most importantly, the video showed how student’s responses and actions to certain situations can bring juveniles into involvement with the criminal justice system. The video was shown to all of the students of the DuBois Middle School while they were in their classrooms.
After watching the video, students were given the opportunity to email questions to DA Shaw and School Resource Officer Paul Brosky. Shaw and Brosky then responded live to the student generated questions via the Middle School’s WMSK television studio, and their responses were able to be viewed by all of the students while in their classrooms.
Shaw stated that he was very pleased with the presentation, and felt that the students asked very good questions. Shaw believes that after watching the video, students are more prepared to handle situations that may arise in a more effective manner. Shaw also stated that by making the students aware of the potential consequences of certain actions this will help deter juveniles from making decisions that would cause them to become involved with the criminal justice system.
Shaw thanked School Resource Officer Paul Brosky of the DuBois City Police Department, Principal Michael Newman, Health Instructor Tom Callairri, Technology Coach Nicole Hill and students Tyler Vanchure and Emily Andrulonis for their assistance with the presentation.
