Obituary Notice: James D. Hartzfeld

James D. Hartzfeld, Age 72 of Rt. 119, Punxsutawney, PA died May 25, 2011 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian as the result of injuries sustained in a farming accident on Monday.

Born on Nov. 11, 1938 in Luthersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Eugene & Arvilla (Swartzlander) Hartzfeld. 

On Aug. 17, 1973, he married Kathleen L. (Bonsall) Hartzfeld.  She survives. 

He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve.  

He was a retired coal miner of 35 years.  He enjoyed many years of taking care of the Bonsall Family Farm.

He was a member to the Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ where he served as an elder and as the church cemetery caretaker.  He was a charter member of the Brady Township Fired Department and was a former Henderson Township Supervisor and Auditor.  He was a member of the Brady Grange # 1218, the Past to Present Machinery Association, the Over 50 Club of Luthersburg, and was a Jefferson County Fair Board member.  He enjoyed days filled socializing with many friends and family. 

He is survived by 2 daughters (Mrs. Richard (Sharon) Smochek of Punxsutawney, PA, and Mrs. Frank (Karen) Orner of Rockton, PA) 3 sons (Randy Hartzfeld and his wife Vicki of Punxsutawney, PA; David Hartzfeld and his wife Kelly of DuBois, PA; and Daniel Hartzfeld and his wife Renee of Warren, PA) 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by 3 sisters (Betty Price of DuBois, PA; Mrs. Charles (Mary) Gilbert of Amherst, NY; and Mrs. Alan (Rebecca) Spencer of Luthersburg, PA) and 3 brothers (Howard Hartzfeld and his wife Mary Alice of Erie, PA; Glenn Hartzfeld and his wife Sandy of Luthersburg, PA; and Llyn Hartzfeld and his wife Donna of Luthersburg, PA). 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters (Viola Miknis, Roberta Berger, and Infant Helen Marie Hartzfeld) and 2 brothers (Robert Hartzfeld and infant George Hartzfeld.)

Visitation will be held on May 27 from 2 to 8 p.m. from the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on May 28 at 11 a.m. from the Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ with Pastor Mary Ellen Hoffman officiating. 

Burial will follow in Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery.
