Route 453 Bridge in Curwensville is Still Closed

Detour remains in place

CLEARFIELD – The Route 453 Bridge near Curwensville remains closed as preservation work continues. The bridge spans the West Branch of the Susquehanna River on Route 453 (Bloomington Hill Road) near Irwin Park.

The detour around the closure is still in place. The official detour directs motorists to use Routes 453, 53, 729, and 969. PennDOT had originally planned to open the bridge and lift the detour yesterday, May 19, but construction related issues have pushed the re-opening date. PennDOT now expects to re-open the bridge by the end of next week.

Route 453 remains open on either side of the river but traffic cannot cross the bridge.  Overall project work includes preservation of the current bridge, approach work and miscellaneous construction. The L.C. Whitford Company Inc. of Wellsville, New York is the contractor on this $4.8 million job. PennDOT expects to complete this bridgework in July. All work is weather dependent.
