CLEARFIELD – Two individuals came before the Clearfield Borough Committee to speak for the Clearfield Revitalization Corporation. Kelly Truman and Steve Albert came to ask the borough to reconsider the decision not to put the star lights back up throughout the downtown.
Truman stated that the star lights helped create a cohesive environment in town, and assisted in giving visitors a more pleasant view of Clearfield. Truman wanted the stars to be hung again to assist in the town beautification leading up to the planned events for Patriot’s Day, the anniversary of 9-11.
Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott explained that the stars were removed for liability reasons. The stars as currently designed hang from brackets eight feet high, but due to their size this is low enough that some individuals have walked into the lights. It was also stated that kids in town were stealing light bulbs from the lights due to how low they hang. Stott added that even if the council overturned her decision the lights would likely not be rehung till next year as the road crew was busy working on storm water issues.
The council members who spoke up on the subject matter had nothing against the lights, and remedies were toss around to get the lights rehung. This included trying to retrofit the brackets or hanging the lights upside down. Stott mentioned there is work currently being done to get a grant for a complete redesign on how the lights would hang. This grant, if awarded, would move the lights from eight feet to twelve feet high.
