Streets, Sidewalks Discussed at Council Meeting

CLEARFIELD – Roadwork and sidewalks were touched upon several times at the Clearfield Borough Committees meeting Thursday night.

Roadwork will continue after being delayed due to the weather.  Roads will be continued to be patched as funding for the local projects limit the repairs to patching.  The committee plans on trying to pave with CDBG funds when available, but price increase in oil have lead to an increase of the cost of asphalt.

It was announced that the CDBG funs the borough will be receiving this year is $139,001.

Work continues on Arnold Avenue and Fourth Street.  Restoration work is set to begin on Arnold soon.  According to Borough Manager Leslie Stott the storm drain renovations have already aided in the last storm.  With rain falling at an inch and a quarter an hour the sixth inch pipe installed was filled to three-fourths capacity.

Vickie Ward approached the committee to complain about the state of sidewalks in the area around Spruce and Linden Streets.  Ward stated the borough that they had a responsibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act, title 2, to make sure the right-a-ways in the borough, including sidewalks, are accessible for handicapped individuals.

The sidewalks at the Clearfield YMCA are in the process for having their ramps checked to meet guidelines regarding accessibility.  The crossing from the YMCA on Locust Street falls under the borough’s regulations and has been found to meet guidelines.  The crossing on Second Street is being deferred to PennDOT as they are responsible for that crossing and ramp.
