SM@RT Dining Options for May

CLEARFIELD – Have you heard about SM@ART Dining yet? If not, it is time to attend a “Have One On Us” session and sample the service first-hand.  SM@ART stands for Sharing Meals at Area Restaurants Together.  This is a new program offered by the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc. (CCAAA) in partnership with local restaurants.  Launched earlier this year, the program is currently featured at the Arrowhead Restaurant, Ethan’s Café, and the Dutch Pantry Family Restaurant, all in the Clearfield area.   Two additional local restaurants are in the preparation stages – and are expected to offer the service this summer.

In order to call attention to this unique service and give eligible residents a way to experience SM@ART Dining first hand, CCAAA will treat diners age 60 and over to the SM@ART Meal of their choice at three sampling sessions scheduled during Older American’s Month. There is no cost to customers who attend.

Residents of Clearfield County, who haven’t already attended a “Have One On Us” session, are invited to come and taste a meal on Monday, May 9th, at the Arrowhead Restaurant, May 16, at Ethan’s Café, or May 24 at the Dutch Pantry.  All sessions will be at 4:00 p.m. Reservations are required, as seating is limited at each location.

At these special gatherings, participants may select any meal combo from the SM@ART Menu.  While orders are being prepared, staff from the Area Agency on Aging will describe how the service works and enroll people who are interested in using it in the future.

SM@ART Dining is not a discount program.  It is actually an extension of the traditional CCAAA nutrition program available at senior centers.  However, in this program, the service is provided at restaurants using their menus, which have been modified slightly so that they meet state and federal nutrition program meal patterns.

SM@ART Dining gives participants the freedom to choose what restaurant they want to go to and what meal they want to eat on a day and time that suits their schedule.  This individual flexibility will give many more people over 60 in Clearfield County a way to participate in CCAAA nutrition programs.

SM@ART Dining is exclusively for Clearfield County residents who are 60 years of age or older, or who are married to someone over 60.  People interested in attending a “Have One On Us” information session must make reservations by calling the Agency at 765-2696 by the Friday before the session they want to attend.
