Lady Bisons Offense Stalls Again Against Lady Bearcats

HUNTINGDON – A strong, three-hit peformance by Clearfield pitcher Heather Picard went for naught as Huntingdon’s Sarah Snare relied on her defense for a 3-1 victory in scholastic softball action Wednesday afternoon.

“We had five hits and six walks and still could score only one run,” Lady Bison coach Bob Dixon said. “We left 10 on the bases.

“We’ve faced better pitchers, but all we did was pop up. We had 14 flyouts and three strikeouts, so we made them field the ball only four times.”

Three Lady Bison misplays gave the Lady Bearcats a run in the first inning of the Mountain League Allegheny Division game.

B.J. Bowman scored the tying run on a passed ball in the fifth inning after receiving a free pass, stealing second and advancing to third on Suzie Colesar’s single.

In the sixth, Picard issued her only walk to Casey Baird, who moved up two bases on passed balls. Snare was hit by a pitch and stole second without a play being made.

Cheyenne Snyder then looped a single behind first for the two runs that lifted the Lady Bearcats to their fourth win in 10 games. They are 2-2 in the division.

The Lady Bisons, who got two hits from Mikayla Ebeling, tumbled to 3-5 with their second division setback.

They had six stolen bases, two each by Bowman and Ebeling.

The last four innings were played in intermittent showers, but that had little effect on the outcome, according to Dixon.

“Everything we hit was up in the air,” he said. “We’re just not hitting the ball well.

“We scored 15 runs in our first two games, and we’ve scored 15 in the next five.”

He noted the Lady Bisons have been shut out twice and held to one run in Picard’s last three stars.

It doesn’t get any easier for them with a make-up road game against Philipsburg-Osceola Thursday and a home contest against Central Friday. P-O has only one loss and Central’s Kyle Gunnett blanked the Lady Bisons 3-0 last Friday.
