CURWENSVILLE – With preservation work continuing on a state Route 453 bridge near Curwensville, a detour will be in place for part of May. The detour will be in place May 5 through 19, as work continues on a bridge that spans the West Branch of the Susquehanna River on SR 453 (Bloomington Hill Road) near Irwin Park. SR 453 will be open on either side of the river but traffic will not be able to cross the bridge. The official detour will direct motorists to use SRs 453, 53, 729, and 969.
Overall project work includes preservation of the current bridge, approach work and miscellaneous construction. The L.C. Whitford Company, Inc. of Wellsville, New York is the contractor on this $4.8 million job. PennDOT expects to complete this bridgework in July. All work is weather dependent.
