Baseball hosts Wounded Warrior game on Saturday

University Park, Pa. — The Penn State baseball team will host its second annual Wounded Warrior Benefit Game on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. when the Nittany Lions face Ohio State at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The game was developed to help create awareness for wounded warriors and their sacrifices while providing useful services to meet the needs of injured service members and their families. During the game, Penn State will wear special camouflage uniforms and hold a silent auction with proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project.

In addition to the silent auction, fans can purchase special Penn State baseball camo t-shirts for $15 to benefit the project. Additionally, a portion of each ticket sold for the game will be donated to the cause.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to "honoring and empowering wounded warriors" of the U.S. Armed Forces. Its mission is to raise awareness while providing benefits such as quality healthcare, support groups, and compensation programs to the service members and their families.

The silent auction will feature several exciting items for fans to bid on throughout the day. Every camo jersey worn by the Penn State players and coaches during the game will be up for auction with a minimum bid of $80. Additionally, a suite for the Penn State – Minnesota series beginning on May 13 will be auctioned off on Saturday as well as a personal tour of Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Several National Championship items will also be up for bidding. An autographed 2010 women’s volleyball poster and a Cael Sanderson signed placard will be available during the auction. Furthermore, a signed football by Joe Paterno and an autographed basketball hat by Talor Battle will be available as well.

For those students looking to save some money, free use of textbooks for the fall semester will also be auctioned off to benefit the program.

The Wounded Warrior Benefit Game will highlight a unique list of special events this weekend. Friday’s game will serve as an Emergency Personnel and Military Appreciation Night. Two days later, an Easter Egg hunt will be held following the game on Sunday.
