LOCK HAVEN – Jennifer Williams of Clearfield has received Lock Haven University’s 2011 Student Woman of Distinction Award. The award was presented at the Gerald R. Robinson Academic Honors and Foundation Awards Convocation on April 17.

A Bio-Chem pre-med major, Jennifer Williams has been the captain of her soccer team, served as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president, been active as an SCC Senator, and served as a student trustee for the LHU council of Trustees.

In presenting the award, Nicole Burkholder-Mosco, associate professor of English and Chair of the Women of Distinction sub-committee, noted that Williams has been described as “remarkable,” “upstanding,” “compassionate,” “driven,” and “unassuming yet influential.”

She also quoted one nominator who explained that Williams has “achieved great things [in science and athletics] where females are stereotypically not viewed or accepted as leaders” and that she “is somehow able to package her successful academic, athletic, campus, and community efforts together with an enthusiastic and open personality.”

Prior to announcing the 2011Student Woman of the Year, Professor Burkholder-Mosco recognized all those who were nominated for the award. Out of the thousands of women students at Lock Haven University, seven were singled out for nominations. “This is an amazing list of phenomenal students,” said Professor Burkholder-Mosco. “The competition this year was fierce and each of these nominees is more than deserving of the award.”

The nominees were Heather Cottage, Vicki Dinsmore, Shannon McCabe, Alicia Perrelli, Tierney Ulmer, Tiffany Ulmer and Jennifer Williams.
