Bernard A. Masonis, 68, of DuBois died suddenly Friday at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola, FL.
Born Oct. 4, 1942 in Elyria, OH, he was the son of Albert T. and Frances E. (Pierce) Masonis. His father survives, living in DuBois. His mother preceded him in death.
He was a 1960 graduate of the St. Catherine’s High School. He then attended an electronics school in Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Vietnam War era.
Mr. Masonis retired as the chief technician from Time Warner Cable television after many years of service in the DuBois area.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, where he was active as a Eucharistic Minister and served on the parish council and financial committee.
He enjoyed motorcycling, cars, kayaking and cross-country skiing. He was a motorcycle coach for both the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program and Harley Davidson Riders Edge.
He served as safety officer for the DuBois Chapter Tri-County H.O.G. He was a charter member of the American Motorcycle Association and a member of the American Legion Riders.
He was a volunteer driver for the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the DuBois Area Soap Box Derby Association. He was also a licensed amateur radio operator.
He married Judith K. (Allen) Masonis Oct. 17, 1970. She survives. He’s survived by his daughter, Lani Sherrill and her husband, Justin of Rochester, NY; his brother, Joseph Masonis of Penfield; two sisters, Frances Gula of Brookville and Dorothy Storbakkan and her husband, Gene of Williston, ND; and two granddaughters, Madelyn and Claire Sherrill.
Friends will be received from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with Fr. David Foradori as celebrant.
