Lester A. “Pat” Dunlap, 85, of DuBois died Thursday at his residence.
Born on Jan. 8, 1926 in Brockway, he was the son of the late Plum E. and Annabelle (Pierce) Dunlap. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the 82nd Airborne during World War II.
He retired as a self-employed contractor in the DuBois area after many years. Prior to that, he’d been the head architect for the Riverside Division of the Penn Traffic Co. for over 20 years. He had also worked for Northwest Mining.
He was a member of the DuBois Country Club, the George D. Montgomery Post 17 American Legion, the James J. Patterson Post 813 Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a past DuBois Little League Manager. He was always very active in community affairs and an avid golfer.
In 1949, he was married to Kathleen R. (Baldauf) Dunlap. She preceded him in death on July 19, 1993.
He’s survived by his son, Lester A. “Pat” Dunlap II and his wife, Susan of Rockton and his daughter, Sherri L. Hartzfeld and her husband, John of DuBois; a brother, Willard Dunlap and his wife, Ruth of DuBois; six sisters, Adeleine DiPello of North Tonawanda, NY; Phyllis Bowersox of Richmond, VA; Grace Weber of Home Camp; Dorthalene Snedden and her husband, Donald of DuBois; Etha Benner of Pittsburgh; and June Sturniolo of State College; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Dunlap.
Visitation will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home, DuBois.
The DuBois Area Honor Guard will conduct a military ritual service at 11:45 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Monday with Pastor Ken Sherwood officiating.
Full military honors will be accorded from the funeral home. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
