Cambria County to Receive Recycling Grant

HARRISBURG – Cambria County will receive a state grant to aid its recycling efforts, announced state Sen. John Wozniak and state Rep. Frank Burns.

The grant of $25,309 was awarded by the state Department of Environmental Protection under the Recycling Performance Grant Program.

“Shrinking the amount of waste headed to landfills is a critical part in preserving our environment,” Wozniak said. “Local officials play a key role in encouraging and implementing recycling and the grant is recognition of that role and the state’s support for it.”

According to the DEP, Cambria County recycled more than 3,200 tons of refuse in 2008.  The grant is in addition to funds the state awards local governments for establishing and maintaining recycling programs.

“DEP continues to make wise investments in our region,” Burns said. “I would like to congratulate Cambria County for these important efforts to promote recycling in our region.”
