Softball postpones eight games; seeks clement weather east

"Rain, rain go away, Come again another day" – Nursery Rhyme

Since the weather is an equally embraced and despised, the Penn State New Kensington softball team commiserates with the nursery rhyme. After the April 13 postponement of a conference doubleheader because of rain, coach Mike Marsilli’s squad has now "lost" eight Penn State University Athletic Conference games to the weather.

And with the playoffs set to begin in two weeks, the rescheduled games are stacking up like used practice balls in the pitching machine shopping cart. In addition to the postponed league games, five nonconference contests were canceled. The New Kensington Lady Lions are 2-0 in the PSUAC and 2-1 overall. Marsilli hopes to get the team back on track this weekend with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 16, at Penn State Hazleton and a 1 p.m. twin bill on Sunday, April 17, at Penn State Worthington Scranton. The extended forecast isn’t softball friendly for the Hazleton match, rain and wind and 47 degrees, but should be accommodating for the Worthington Scranton game, sunny and 65 degrees.
