Charles E. “Chuck” Stine, 60, of Philipsburg died Wednesday at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born Sept. 10, 1950, he was the son of the late James M. and Adaline V. “Connie” (Smeal) Stine. He was a member of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Chester Hill.

Mr. Stine was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of various area sportsmen’s clubs as well as of the National Rifle Association and the National Arbor Day Foundation.

He was a 1968 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School.

Mr. Stine worked with the Rice Coal Company, which was owned by his father-in-law, Max Rice until its closing. He was a masonry tender with Labors’ International of North America, Local 824, Bellefonte.

He wed the former Karen Rice March 9, 1979 at the Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Chester Hill. She survives at home. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Stine.

He’s survived by one daughter, Alexandra Garland Stine of Chester Hill; two brothers, Randy M. Stine of Philipsburg and Gregory A. Stine of Clearfield; and several nieces and nephews.

A prayer service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg, and will be followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Chester Hill, with the Rev. John C. Horosky officiating.

Interment will be at the St. John the Baptist Orthodox Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 East Spruce St., Philipsburg. Parastas will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Military graveside honors will be accorded by members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to: the Penn State University Women’s Gymnastics Booster Club, 110 White Bldg., University Park, PA 16802.
