Willard E. Williams, 94, of Philipsburg died Tuesday at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. He was the last member of his generation.

Born Jan. 11, 1917 in Port Matilda, he was the son of the late Meshack and Stella (Williams) Williams. He was a member of the Faith Worship Center, Philipsburg.

Mr. Williams was a 1935 graduate of the Port Matilda High School.

He was formerly employed as a heavy equipment operator for PennDOT. He then worked for the State College Area School District before being later employed as the head custodian at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, State College, until his retirement.

He wed the former Minerva J. Maurer Oct. 14, 1940 in Cumberland, MD. She preceded him in death Sept. 1, 2006.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewey E. and Bernard Williams; two sisters, Dorothy Gill and Mable Nearhoof; and three infant grandchildren.

Mr. Williams is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Cole and her husband, Leroy of Port Matilda and Marjorie J. Jones and her husband, Charles of Chester Hill and two sons, Richard Williams and his wife, Teana of Columbus, OH and Willard I. Williams and his wife, Irene of Port Matilda.

He’s also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Lamarr Pirkle and the Rev. Douglas Mottin officiating. Interment will be at the Williams Cemetery, Martha Furnace.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
