Helen Markley Boron, 84 of Clearfield passed away March 28, 2011 at home.
She was born on July 18, 1926 in Madera, PA, the daughter of Josiah and Hulda (Olson) Markley.
Mrs. Boron was a 1948 Graduate of Pennsylvania State University in Medical Technology, while at Penn State she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, Rifle Club, PSU Letterman’s S Club, Rod and Crocus Club.
She worked as a medical technologist at Penn State University Health Services, Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh, and the University of Pennsylvania Hospitals in Philadelphia.
She was a member of the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church of Clearfield, Rosary and Altar Society, St. Francis Parish Council and a Volunteer at St. Francis School donating her hours of service toward the tuition program. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Mrs. Boron was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Pennsylvania State University President’s Club, Life member- Penn State Alumni Association, Nittany Lion Club and American Association of University Women. She was a member of the Local Woman’s Bridge Club.
She was the Coordinator of the Clearfield Hospital Candy Striper Association and a Boy Scout Den Leader and Den Mother.
In 2005, Mrs. Boron received the President’s Volunteer Service Award presented to her by President George Bush for 4000 hours of Community Service over the course of her life.
Mrs. Boron is survived by her husband Dr. Robert J. Boron, MD whom she married on Aug. 11, 1950 at St. Peters and Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg, PA, three children; Betsy B. Fargo and her husband Robert L. of Washington, PA, John R. Boron and his wife Brenda C. of Mt. Lebanon, PA and William P. Boron and his wife Anne W. of Strongsville, OH, eight grandchildren; Megan Fargo, Erik Fargo, Erin Fargo, Madison Boron, Olivia Boron, Alexandra Boron, Brooks Boron and Bryce Boron.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a son Robert A. Boron.
Friends will be received at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield on March 31, 2011 from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. On Thursday, the Rosary will be recited at 5: 15 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 5:45 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be said on April 1 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church of Clearfield with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee as celebrant. Interment will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
