FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Sophomore Mike Moyer of Clearfield combined with former high school teammate Chad Zurat for one win and then came back four days later to hurl a complete game for two of Penn State Behrend’s five victories on its Spring Break trip.
The 5-11, 190-pound right-hander was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for his starts against Neumann March 7 and Susquehanna Saturday.
Against Neumann, Moyer worked seven innings and allowed only five hits and one run while striking out two, walking two and hitting two.
Zurat, a freshman right-hander, came on to close out the 8-1 win in his debut for the Lions. He earned a save with two scoreless innings, whiffing three and giving up one hit.
Moyer fashioned a five-hitter and fanned seven in beating Susquehanna 9-1. He walked only one.
Senior Kyle Kline of Clearfield started four games at first base and played at third base in another game.
He had one hit in 11 at-bats and drove in one run with a sacrifice fly.
Penn State Behrend also beat Lebanon Valley 6-4 Thursday and Muhlenberg 3-1 Friday to head north with a 5-3 mark.

CHANDLER, Arz. – Sophomore center fielder-pitcher Ben McGary of Curwensville raised his average and lowered his earned run average, posting his second save, while freshman pitcher Sam Gardner of Curwensville saw his first action of the season for Pitt-Bradford last week.
McGary started six of the Panthers’ seven games in center and rapped three singles in a 9-6 loss to Concordia (Wis.) Saturday to hike his average to .200. He had an RBI-triple in a 17-5 win over Southern Vermont on March 7.
The southpaw made two relief appearances, holding Wesleyan (Conn.) hitless while striking out one to save a 9-7 win Friday.
He worked 2.2 innings with three strikeouts, one walk and no hits in a 17-3 nightcap rout of Southern Vermont.
McGary has not given up a hit or run in his last three relief appearances and now has a 2.21 ERA, second-best on the team behind the 1.83 of Richie Pruzinsky (2-0) of DuBois.
Gardner worked 1.1 scoreless innings in the first game against Southern Vermont but was roughed up by Wesleyan in a 15-8 first-game loss and has a 10.50 ERA for four innings pitched.

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Slippery Rock senior shortstop Adam Jury of Bigler (Clearfield Area H.S.) struggled at the plate in the final five games of The Rock’s annual Spring Break trip last week.
He singled three times in 21 at-bats, dropping his average to .250.
The Rock returned home with a 7-7 record after losing to No. 6-ranked University of Tampa 7-1 and splitting four games in the third annual Russmat Central Florida Invitational.
Both wins were against West Chester in 10 innings, 3-2 at Chain O’Lakes Park on March 7 and 1-0 at Southeastern University Park in Lakeland Saturday.
Jury, who had two of his hits in the getaway game, is 14-for-56 with one home run and 10 runs batted in.

WRESTLING
BLOOMSBURG – The Lock Haven career for redshirt senior Derek Caldwell of Curwensville ended at the 39th annual Eastern Wrestling League Championships in Bloomsburg’s Nelson Fieldhouse March 6.
He was paired against top-seed 197-pounder Zac Thomusseit of Pitt in the first round, and the No. 5-ranked Panther posted a fall at 6:07. Thomusseit (22-2) went on to grab the gold medal and is seeded seventh for the NCAA Division I Championships in Philadelphia this week.
In the consolations, Caldwell was pinned at 1:53 by Bloomsburg’s Richard Perry, who placed fifth.
Lock Haven finished sixth in the eight-team field with 70.5 points.
Pitt easily won its first EWL title with six champs accounting for the majority of its 132.5 points.
Caldwell, a 174-pounder who moved up to 184 and 197 to bolster the Bald Eagle lineup during the dual meet season, finished 5-15.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Senior Allison White of Clearfield scored one goal as Grove City rallied to top Gannon 11-9 Sunday afternoon in its final game of the Wolverine Invitational in Michigan’s Canham Natatorium.
Grove City (7-8) had fallen to No. 7-ranked Michigan 14-1 and Marist (16-2) Saturday and Siena 9-6 earlier Sunday.
White has eight goals, three assists and two steals.
