AAA wrestling will resume Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. with the semifinals and the third round of consolations. Two District 9 wrestlers are still alive and will wrestle each other in the semifinals, assuring D9 of one finalist. At 152 pounds DuBois’ Geno Morelli will have a District 9 finals rematch with Bradford’s Mark Havers. Havers won that bout in overtime 3-1 and then went on to his fourth Northwest Region title.

The winner will go for the gold medal in the championship finals, which begin Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. The loser can place anywhere from third to sixth.

The Northwest Region has five semifinalists and 12 still left in the consolation bracket. The top team from the NW region is Westmont Hilltop, which sits in a tie for 11th place and has three wrestlers still remaining.

The AAA team race is led by WPIAL powerhouse Canon-McMillan, which has five semifinalists.

In AA, District 9 will bring home three medals. Brookville’s Jacob Shields at 189 and Brockway’s Joel Yahner at 285 will both go for the bronze medal. Shields lost his first match Thursday and has run off four straight wins to reach the consolation finals, while Yahner lost in the semifinals.
