Dorothy Grace Cowdrick, 98, formerly of Clearfield, currently of State College, PA passed away on March 8, 2011 at the Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College, PA.
She was born on March 10, 1912, the daughter of Ai and Mayme (McQuillen) Cowdrick.
Dorothy graduated from the Clearfield Area High School in 1932. She was a graduate of the Griffith School of Beauty, Pittsburgh, PA and was a beautician in Clearfield for over 50 years. She served on the first Board of Cosmetology for the Clearfield Vocational Technical School.
She was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Clearfield and the United Methodist Women.
Dorothy was an active member of the Clearfield Business and Professional Women’s Club for many years. She and her sisters were avid bowlers and members of the Clearfield YMCA League. She graduated from the first Drivers’ Education Class ever taught in Clearfield by Amos Neyhart of State College, PA.
She is survived by two nieces, Joan F. Hubbard of State College, PA, Ann C. Lake of Solomon, MD, nine great nieces and three great nephews; Barbara J. Hubbard of Boalsburg, PA, Ann L. Hubbard of Whitehall, NY, Mary Ann Wigfield of Clearfield, PA, Debra W. Spayd of Lumber Bridge, NC, Richard T. Warren of Hebron, IN, Karen L. Livingston, Joan L. Decker, Janice L. Beannis, all of Maryland; Robert Settlemire, Craig Settlemire, Cathy S. Michaels, all of California; and Jennifer C. Tibbens of North Carolina.
She is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: Mae C. Lewis, Marjorie C. Flegal, Annabel C. Warren, Evelyn L. Cowdrick, three brothers: Charles Cowdrick, Sr., William Cowdrick, Bowman Cowdrick and two infant brothers, two nieces; Janet C. Wigfield, Nancy C. Settlemire, two nephews: Richard T. Warren, Charles Cowdrick, Jr. and one great nephew Michael C. Wigfield.
Friends will be received in the Chapel of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Clearfield on March 10 from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on March 10 at 12:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church of Clearfield with the Rev. Dr. Robert L. Rupp officiating. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.
