Clearfield Firm Awarded Abandoned Mine Contract

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, announced that a Clearfield firm has been selected to reclaim an abandoned mine in Woodward Township.

“I am happy to report that the DEP awarded a contract in the amount of $187,776 to E.M. Brown, Inc., of Clearfield for an Abandoned Mine Reclamation Project,” George said.

The project, located in Baughman Cemetery East, involves 111,500 cubic yards of grading, 200 cubic yards of channel excavation, 500 feet of subsurface drains with cleanouts, incorporation of 3,760 tons of paper mill sludge, and 18.8 acres of seeding.

The project is expected to begin in April and should be completed by November of this year.

George also noted that the Central PA Sewage Agency of Clearfield County has been awarded a $5,177 grant for it sewage enforcement efforts. The grant reimburses the agency for half the eligible expenses.

“I’m pleased to see Clearfield County receiving valuable funding that helps allows us to continually make our environment cleaner for generations to come,” George said. “We must continue looking forward, and this is a step in that direction.”
