Here’s a preview of The Cave by Claypool Jones. This week, Claypool gives you the rundown on Dog Soldiers. Here’s a look:
What truly sets this film apart from others in the horror genre is the actions of the characters involved. In most horror movies, the victims are cursed with such stupidity, ignorance, or absolute lack of common sense that the viewer is hoping for them to die as painfully and graphically as possible. I can’t tell you how many horror movies I’ve watched where I thought to myself “I can’t wait for this moron to depart this life screaming”. Also, the villains in the typical horror movie insist on using cheesy one-liners, or contriving elaborate back stories (which are almost uniformly dim-witted), or are completely unbelievable in their methods. Did you ever notice how Jason from the Friday the 13th movies or Michael Myers from the Halloween movies never have to run to catch up to their fleeing victims? I mean, you can run your ass off, and the psycho dude wearing the hockey mask carrying the machete will lumber casually after you, only to cut your face off as you round the next corner or run into the basement like an idiot. It’s just stupid.
