Rick Schickling of Clearfield has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Clearfield County Commissioner.
Schickling is a life-long resident of the county and graduated from the Clearfield Area High School in 1977. He currently operates a family business in Lawrence Township that was started by his grandfather, Claude Schickling, 60 years ago. Schickling has one son, Todd, who graduated from CAHS and who also works and raises a family in Clearfield.
As commissioner, Schickling wants to create jobs so that “our children” stay in Clearfield County. He says the Marcellus Shale industry has created the “biggest buzz” and needs to be included in the solution. However, for him, it is not a “fix all” for the local economy.
Schickling said the gas industry must benefit residents county-wide, not just some. He plans to work hard and bring “many, different industries and jobs” to the citizens of Clearfield County.
“Being a small business owner, I understand times are tough, and I try to stretch every dollar and will continue to do so as your commissioner,” he said.
