HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Clearfield County, today announced that the Clearfield County Solid Waste Authority has received a $3,702 grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
The grant, awarded under the Pennsylvania Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant Program, will be used to reimburse half the costs for developing and operating a household hazardous-waste collection event held at the Recycling Site in Clearfield last September.
“I’m pleased to see this money coming into Clearfield to help cover the costs of a very successful event,” George said. “The focus of the event was electronics recycling, and the CCSWA collected over 400 units, including TVs, VCRs and computers. The total weight of the materials collected was more than 15,700 pounds.”
The event drew hundreds of people and provided an environmentally friendly alternative for disposing of old electronics.
George also announced that the Pennsylvania American Water Company has extended the deadline for applying for one of 10, $2,000 scholarships being offered to students residing in the company’s service territory.
“The “Stream of Learning” scholarships are offered to students planning to attend a two- or four-year school and will study environmental science, environmental engineering, biology or chemistry,” George said. “Although students must reside in the company’s service territory, they may attend college anywhere.”
The deadline, originally Feb. 11, is extended until March 11. More information can be found online at www.pennsylvaniaamwater.com.
