DuBois Man Charged with Rape

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced today that charges have been filed against a Sandy Township man. Shaw identified the defendant as James Robert Simunovich, age 19, of Bucco Reef Road, DuBois.

On Jan. 14, 2011, Officer Erik Rupp of the Sandy Township Police Department filed a criminal complaint charging Simunovich with: 1) rape, F1; 2) sexual assault, F2; 3) aggravated indecent assault, F2; and 4) indecent assault, M2. Rupp also obtained a warrant for Simunovich’s arrest.

An affidavit of probable cause filed with the complaint provides that on June 28, 2010, Rupp was dispatched to the DuBois Regional Medical Facility to meet with the victim of an alleged sexual assault. Upon further investigation, it was found that while the victim, a juvenile female, was sleeping she was sexually assaulted by Simunovich.

Shaw stated that on Jan. 28, 2011, deputies from the United States Marshal Service located Simunovich in Greenville, NC and took him into custody.

Simunovich was extradited from Greenville, NC to the Clearfield County Jail on Feb. 6, 2011, in order to face the charges pending against him. Shaw thanked the United States Marshal Service, the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sandy Township Police Department for their assistance with this case.
