WESTVOER – The Curwensville Area High School girls basketball team couldn’t slow down Harmony point guard Makenzie Kruise Thursday night and wound up on the short end of a 56-40 final in Moshannon Valley League action.
Kruise, who poured in a career-high 30 points against Purchase Line Monday night, remained red hot with 11 field goals, including a trio of three-pointers in the first quarter, and finished with 29 points for the Lady Owls.
“She pretty much was the difference,” Lady Tide coach Rusty McCracken said. “We were within two early in the quarter. Then, Kruise started finding people and probably had five or six assists.”
Harmony (4-13) opened a 41-24 lead going to the fourth period, when Kruise tacked on 10 points, four of them at the foul line.
Kruise accounted for 11 of the Lady Owls’ 14 points in the first quarter and had 15 by halftime, when the hosts owned a 22-16 advantage.
Curwensville (3-13) outscored Harmony in the second and fourth periods, but only by a combined three points.
Taylor Bumbarger was high with 11 points and Kealy Wassil came off the bench to chip in a career-high 10 for the Lady Tide, which is right back in action Friday night at home against Johnsonburg.
In the prelim, Megan McGarry and Tiera Bumbarger tallied eight points apiece to lead the Curwensville jayvees to a 38-13 victory.
