LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven University Department of Athletics raised $350 in donations and collected more than 15 pairs of new shoes during its Kids’ Shoe Drive held recently during a pair of home basketball doubleheader contests.

All monetary and footwear donations are going to the Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank, which is located at the Covenant United Methodist Church.

The athletics department collected shoes and donations in lieu of the normal admission prices at the men’s and women’s basketball doubleheaders on Jan. 3 – 4 and during all four games held entertaining timeout contests geared specifically around creating awareness about the Shoe Bank and its efforts.

Elizabeth Shultz of the event staff commented, “As the announcer of the time out activities, it was fun interacting with all our participants and helping to raise awareness of a local community service.” Jake Lindsey, also of the event staff, added, “Watching the donations come in reminded me of just how fortunate I am.”

The Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank has fitted over 1,300 local youth in Clinton County with new shoes and sneakers. Local youth may receive a pair of new shoes twice a year, free of charge. The shoe bank is open on two Saturdays every month, year round.
