DA Announces Apprehension of Two Fugitives

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the apprehension of two fugitives.

The first is Ryan C. Palmer, 18 of Weber Avenue, DuBois. Shaw stated that Palmer was wanted for failure to appear at a preliminary hearing on Nov. 19, 2010.

On Oct. 25, 2010, Officer Matthew Robertson of the DuBois City Police Department, filed a criminal complaint charging Palmer with: 1) access device fraud, M1; and 2) theft by unlawful taking, M2.

An affidavit of probable cause filed by Robertson states that on Oct. 16, 2010, the DuBois City Police received a complaint of theft from a DuBois resident. The victim relayed that Palmer had taken her debit card. Upon further investigation, it was found that Palmer had made three unauthorized ATM withdrawals using the victim’s debit card.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 19, 2010, at which time Palmer failed to appear for the hearing. A warrant was issued for Palmer’s arrest.

The second is Michele Derrick, age 45, of East Market Street, Clearfield.

Shaw stated that Derrick was wanted for failure to appear at arraignment court on Nov. 10, 2010.

On Sept. 14, 2010, Assistant Chief Vince McGinnis of the Clearfield Borough Police Department, filed a criminal complaint charging Derrick with retail theft, F3.

An affidavit of probable cause filed by McGinnis states that on Sept. 8, 2010, the Clearfield Borough Police Department received a report that Derrick had stolen merchandise from the Clearfield Pharmacy. Video surveillance showed Derrick concealing the merchandise in her purse, then exiting the store without paying for the merchandise.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for October 13, 2010, at which time all charges were held for Court. On Nov. 10, 2010, Derrick failed to appear for arraignment court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
