Leonard Anthony Macale, Sr., 93, of Clearfield died on Jan. 9, 2011 at Clearfield Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1917 in Clearfield, a son of the late Domenico and Natalia (Vitelli) Macale.
Mr. Macale worked at Robinson Clay Product Co., Clearfield for over 20 years. He then worked for Soult Wholesale Co., Clearfield and Lezzer Lumber Co., Curwensville.
He was Catholic by faith. He most recently attended the West Side Church of Christ.
Mr. Macale served with the US Army during WWII, earning a Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and four Bronze Stars.
He is survived by five grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Lunsford and husband Gene of Clearfield and Della Sabolefski of Orlando, FL; three sister-in-laws, Lucy Ireland of Clearfield, Louise Stroup of Clearfield Angelina Macale of Clearfield and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Augustine) Macale on Nov. 15, 1996 and whom he married June 21, 1941, a son Leonard A. Macale, Jr. and a daughter, Mary Macale Murphy.
A memorial service will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Friday at 2 p.m. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts’ Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the hour of services.
