CLEARFIELD – The ownership of a strip mall and the Lawrence Township Supervisors agreed to a compromise in property taxes.
The township approved the compromise on Tuesday evening. After their meeting, Jim Naddeo, township solicitor, gave some more detail on the issue.
The strip mall ownership, Clearfield-DFC LLC, had appealed their taxation rate on their Big Lots Plaza property. Naddeo said the township was agreeable to reducing the assessed value of structure (1,222,700) by 35 percent of its assessed and market values.
The county must also make a decision regarding the issue. According to County Commissioner Mark McCracken, the commissioners had not received word from the township supervisors regarding their decision. He indicated that once they do, the item will appear on a future agenda.
UPDATE: In an email to GantDaily on Wednesday, McCracken stated that the county Board of Assessment and Appeals and Chief Assessor Jennifer Wooster had already reached an agreement, that which the supervisors voted on.
