Robert, Bob, “Bullet” Harris, 78, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Dec. 31, 2010 at 3:24 a.m. at his residence in Troy, Philipsburg RD.
Born in Philipsburg on March 15,1932, he was a son of the late John C. and Ruth E. (Rainey) Haris.
He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg, where he formerly served on the Parish Council. He was a 1950 graduate of the Philipsburg High
School and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953, having attained the rank of corporal and was a Purple Heart and Korean War Medal of Honor recipient.
Mr. Harris was an avid sports fan, eagerly looking forward to football season with Penn State football and Joe Pa.
He was employed with the United States Postal Service for 32 years at various locations, retiring as Post Master of the West Decatur Post Office in 1994.
On Jan. 27,1958, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hawk he wed the former Mildred “Millie” Tarbay, who survives at home.
He is also survived by a daughter: Lisa Richtscheit and her husband, James of Philipsburg; two grandchildren: Jim Richtscheit and his fiance Stefanie Peters of Osceola Mills and Christina Ingram and her husband, Christopher of Port Matilda; and one great-grandson: Jimmy Richtscheit of Osceola Mills.
Also surviving are three sisters: Connie Holdsman of Levittown, Cheryl Flocco of Kentucky, and Linda Yazwinski of Philipsburg; a brother: Mark Harris and his wife, Cecilia of Philipsburg and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Philip and Sidney Harris; and two sisters, Joyce Sellers and Ruth Ann Reed.
A devoted family man, Bob loved his family very much, especially his great-grandson, Jimmy, who gave him much joy. He will be deeply missed by all.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 400 S. Fourth St., Philipsburg, with Rev. Robert J. Kelly as celebrant. Burial will follow at Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Philipsburg where military honors will be accorded by members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
Friends will be received on Jan. 3 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg. The Rosary will be recited on Monday at 6:15 p.m. at the funeral home.
