Obituary Notice: Frederick C. Johnson

Frederick Charles Johnson, 67, of Clearfield, passed away Dec. 20, 2010 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.

Born April 3, 1943 in Clearfield, he was the son of John D. Shifter and Esther O. Beauseigneur.  Mr. Johnson was a coal miner and heavy equipment operator for the Grenage Collories Coal Co. in Barnesboro (Northern Cambria), PA.    He was a member of the United Mine Workers Union Local #1609, and Honorary Member of the Veterans of the Vietnam War Chapter 0974 in Clearfield, a member of the Cross Flag Corvette Club, the Grice Community Museum, and the Old Town Sportsman Club. 

On Sept. 2, 1976, he wed the former Ethel E. McCombs who survives along with 2 stepsons Walter P. Wilsoncroft of Clearfield and Jeffrey A. Wilsoncroft of O’Shanter.  Also surviving are 3 step-grandchildren Ashley, Kristin, and Casey; three step-great grandchildren Jaden Cole Albert, Dakota Grace Rubly, and Trace Patrick McDermott; two brothers and two sisters.  Van Johnson and wife Joyce of Curwensville, Barry Johnson of Hawaii, Cynthia Johnson of Uniontown, and Nancy Johnson of New York City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-daughter Susan Lucas, a step-granddaughter Jenna Malone, 2 brothers Chris and Leonard, a sister Patricia, and a half brother William Maldau.

Funeral Services for Mr. Johnson will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville, on Dec. 24 at 10:00 a.m., with the Reverend Samuel Mains officiating. Interment will be in the Bloomington Cemetery, RD Curwensville. 

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Dec. 23 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. until time of services. 

The Family suggests contributions be made to either the Veterans of the Vietnam War Chapter 0974 or the Old Town Sportsman Club.
