Lewis Jay “J.C.” McNeal, 84, of Cherry Corner, Curwensville, passed away Dec. 16, 2010 at Ridgeview Elder Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Curwensville, after a lengthy illness.
Born July 3, 1926 in Kerrmoor, he was the son of Lewis Jay Sr. and Ada Golda (Young) McNeal. Mr. McNeal was a retired school teacher, having taught English, History, and Elementary School in the Curwensville Area School District for 25 years. After teaching, he had also worked for Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde, and the Grandview Golf Club, a.k.a. Eagles Ridge Golf Club in Lumber City.
He was a graduate of St. Francis University in Loretto, PA and the Altoona Bible Institute. He was a member of the Cherry Corner Bible Church and a U S Naval Veteran of the Second World War.
On Aug. 9, 1953 in Bells Landing, he wed the former Esther A. Dickey who survives along with two daughters. Cheryl Harbridge and her husband Bruce of Brockway and Anita Wood and her husband Don of Hershey. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a brother William J. McNeal and his wife Clara of Frankfort, IN.
Mr. McNeal was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Denise Norris, a grandson Logan Norris, and an infant half sister.
Funeral Services for Mr. McNeal will be held at the Cherry Corner Bible Church on Sunday Dec. 19 at 2:00 p.m., with the Reverend George W. Solley officiating. Interment will be in the Watts Cemetery, Curwensville RD.
Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Dec. 18 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
