John J. Aughenbaugh, 74 of Philipsburg, passed away at his residence on Dec. 7, 2010.
Born Nov. 10., 1936, he was the son of the late Melvin and Agnes (Jury) Aughenbaugh.
He was Methodist by faith, served in the US Army from 1960-1962, a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Lodge #3030, a member of the American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #812, and a life member of the BPO Elks #540, all of Clearfield.
He was a crain operator with Conrail for many years until retiring.
On Nov. 20, 1983 he married the former Betty McCracken, who survives at home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers William and James Augenbaugh.
He is survived by step-daughter Tammy Schroeder and her husband Dennis of Phoenix, AZ; step-son Michael Ostrofski of Harrisburg; sisters Barbara Kaufman of Chestertown, MD, Carol Garito of Niagra Falls, NY and Margaret “Peggy” Couch and her husband Ronald of Palmyra; step-grandchildren Jacki Reathaford Baylee Reblin of Phoenix, AZ, Elizabeth Henderson of Hampton, VA and Allyson Ostrofski of Harrisburg and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Timothy D. Richmond officiating. Burial will be at Crown Crest Cemetery in Hyde. Visitation will be held on Dec. 10 at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10-11 a.m.
An Elks memorial service will be held Friday evening at the funeral home. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home on Saturday by Clearfield Honor Guard with members of the American Legion, John Lewis Shade Post #6 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Michael F. Sicks Post #1785 of Clearfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
