Gift-giving Program to Purchase Vaccines for Underserved Population

By Ann Guerrisi-Hawn, Penn State

This holiday season, LionCare will host an alternative gift-giving program to raise money for vaccinations to underserved populations in Harrisburg, Pa., area. To support the alternative gift program, individuals can make a donation to LionCare in their own name or in the name of a friend or relative. Donations will be used to purchase these needed vaccines.

LionCare is a free medical clinic at the Bethesda Mission in downtown Harrisburg run by medical students from Penn State College of Medicine. One of LionCare’s primary goals is to promote awareness and concern for the medical needs of the local underserved community. It has become clear that many, if not most, of this patient population do not receive the most basic of vaccinations that could prevent a host of devastating illnesses in the future.
