According to the incident report, the Philipsburg-based state police were conducting routine patrol on Casanova Road at 7:30 a.m. The accused was reportedly observed standing in the middle of the roadway while also aiming a rifle into a wooded area, police said.
Further, police said another male was the operator of a pick-up truck, which was stopped nearby along the roadway. At that time, police reportedly observed the accused shoot and kill a doe from the roadway.
When the accused noticed the police vehicle, he walked to the side of the roadway, where he tossed a .308-caliber rifle and magazine into the woods. Two .308-caliber casings were recovered from the roadway, according to police.
Police made contact with the accused who reportedly admitted to illegally shooting the deer. The Pennsylvania Game Commission was contacted and arrived at the scene to confiscate the deer.
