Project to Provide Water to Residents in Goshen, Lawrence Townships Awarded Funding

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, said a long-awaited project to provide public water to about 70 residents in Goshen and Lawrence townships will begin in January.

“The state Department of Environmental Protection notified me that it has awarded the $1.8 million contract to the low bidder, Kukurin Contracting of Export, Westmoreland County,”Rep. George said. “Under the project, about 70 residents whose water supplies have been harmed by abandoned mine drainage will receive water from the Clearfield Municipal Authority.”

The project will affect State Route 1006 and Baney Settlement, T. Lee Taylor, Jerry Run, McGeorge, Johnston and Brown Hollow roads. About three miles of new water line and a new water tank will be installed. The project also will involve site preparation and restoration, road and stream crossings and erosion and pollution controls.

George said federal mine reclamation funding will pay for the project, which will take roughly 19 months to complete.
