Decatur Township Fire Chalked Up to Careless Smoking

DECATURE TOWNSHIP – A state police fire marshal investigated a structure fire that occurred on Decatur Street Monday morning.

According to the report, four men were at the residence on 965 Decatur St., at the time of the fire, three were sleeping. Police stated that the men were able to climb onto the roof of the residence to escape the fire.

It was determined that the fire originated on the couch in the living room on the second floor. The cause of the fire was determined to be from careless smoking.

Damage is estimated at $60,000.

The Chester Hill Fire Department and state police K-9 Birko assisted at the scene.
