DUBOIS – A decision on the City of DuBois’ request for a conditional use permit for its shale mining operation is expected to be announced by the Sandy Township Supervisors at their next meeting on Dec. 7.
The City of DuBois can dig up the shale on their property for their own use currently. The conditional use permit would allow DuBois to sell any extra shale to third parties.
The mining site is near the location of DuBois’ six new water wells creating a vested interest in preserving the water supplies in the area from contamination from the mining.
